Visa & travel documents
A Netherlands passport can qualify for a short visa-free tourist visit, subject to conditions. Other nationalities, purposes and longer stays may follow different rules.
Checked on 31 October 2026. The 45-day explanation is specifically for Netherlands passport holders visiting as tourists, not a general exemption for all visitors.

Netherlands passport: tourism for up to 45 days
Resolution 229/NQ-CP allows Netherlands nationals to visit as tourists without a visa for up to 45 days from entry, provided entry conditions are met. The policy runs from 15 August 2025 through 14 August 2028.
The Dutch foreign ministry also lists an onward or return ticket and evidence of the tourist purpose. Ask the Vietnamese embassy or immigration service if your circumstances are unclear.
Passport and personal details
For this exemption, the passport must have at least six months remaining on entry. Check booking and application details: name, date of birth, passport number and expiry date.
Each child needs their own valid travel document. Check consent documentation separately if a child is travelling without both parents who hold parental responsibility.
When an e-visa is needed
For a longer stay or a different purpose, establish the correct permission in advance. A tourist exemption or e-visa does not automatically authorise work or study.
The official e-visa can be valid for up to 90 days, with single or multiple entries. The portal lists USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry. Application fees are not refunded after refusal.
Use the official application portal
Use evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn, the domains named by Vietnam’s Immigration Department. A search advert or a site calling itself “official” is not proof that it is a government service.
Apply well before departure. Check the issued document: payment, an application number or an acknowledgement is not an approved visa. Keep the result offline and carry a printout.
Entries, validity and border crossing
Check the validity dates and number of entries shown on your e-visa. A side trip to a neighbouring country may require fresh permission; do not assume an automatic “visa run”.
Use border crossings permitted for your document and check the current list on the official portal. The border authority makes the final admission decision and determines the permitted stay.
Avoid overstaying
After entry, check the stay you have been granted and plan to leave within it. A document’s validity and the stay permitted to you are not always the same date.
If plans change or your permission is close to expiry, contact immigration before it expires. An extension is not automatic and cannot be arranged through this website.
